I am dismayed that the metal base gets so blazing hot that I burn my fingers if I touch it. The base should be insulated. The wood end table that the lamp sits on also gets very warm, despite the felt on the bottom of the lamp. I am disappointed. And so far, all the "lava" is clumped at the top; there is no motion, and the liquid is cloudy. Perhaps the lamp is defective. I do not know. But I do not like it, and I do not recommend it, because of the extreme heat of the metal base.

I LOVE my giant lava lamp. Her name is Sheila. She works great. I just advise that you stock up on light bulbs when you purchase it. They are not very cheap [...] I go through about one or two light bulbs a year and use Sheila frequently. I would like to know if I can use a regular 100 watt bulb.
