Comments about Spencer's 4.5 Ft Peek a Boo Penny Animatronics - Decorations:

I purchased Peek A Boo Penny April 2017 so this will be the first Halloween in my display. She is pretty startling when her head pops up and it pops up very quickly. Penny may need to be fastened down to keep her in place or from toppling over. She reminds me of the jumping brown spider activates quickly with quite a bit of force. The volume is adjustable and her voice is clear she only has one phrase but it's creepy. She could use a little more hair to conceal her face before she pops up. Her costume is cute ruffles, lace and bows in her hair very cutesy till her face shows up and she has one ugly face! The prop is a decent size the sensor is in her hand and triggers easily. I like that Penny is versatile enough to be used in different themes haunted house, graveyard, asylum etc. She would fit in well with the 2017 Haunted Kids animatronics. I'm hoping Peek A Boo Penny has durability to match her scare quality. I like this prop there's not a lot of bells and whistles but it's fast and effective. Her only downside is once she is put together she can't be totally disassembled and put back in her original box. The price seems fair and I purchased her with an online 20 percent off discount.

Comments about Spencer's 4.5 Ft Peek a Boo Penny Animatronics - Decorations:

While browsing the large props on display at the local Spirit store, I came across one that immediately grabbed my attention (and made me yelp in surprise!). I'm normally not one to get startled by the props, but Peek a Boo Penny put my steel nerves to the test. When I first saw Penny, she was displayed innocently near the large cardboard house showcase; as soon as I got within 6' of her, she started singing that measured, unnerving song. I could see a bit of her skeletal face behind her hands, and I was expecting that her hands would drop or open to reveal the terror behind. Boy, was I wrong! Her head sprung up at such speed that I flailed back! Sadly, the display was the only one the store had, so I did not buy her and purchased the Pumpkin Guardian of the Grave instead (I'll leave a review on that, too). Long story short, Pumpkin Guardian's sound activation-only system was sporadic, and I decided to search for Penny at another Spirit location. I had to visit two other stores before I found her.

Assembly was very easy and clear. The middle pole locks permanently, so you may have to store her standing up or lying down. I noticed that the arms on my Penny, even after being snapped into place, were about a ½" lower than the store demo's arms, so they didn't cover her face as much. A ½" sounds minor, but it makes a big difference. Her hair was a bit thin in places, so I had to apply some wig wefts to hide the thin areas. I also extended her hairline so that the it frames her face and falls closer to her cheeks, as her hands don't conceal her face on the sides. People can now approach Penny from the side without seeing her skeletal features. My Penny also had a few small oil stains on her dress upon opening the box, most likely from the factory. Nothing major.

The details are very good on Penny, from the lace cuffs to the hair bows. It says she's sound and motion activated, but she seems more sensitive to motion rather than sound (I don't know where the listening device is, but her motion sensor is on her left hand).

Even when I run her through test runs, and I now know how her head springs up, she is still startling. The pop-up action is loud in itself, and she screams when it happens. Penny wobbles only slightly when her head springs, but the base seems sturdy enough. I have her running on four AA batteries.

Overall, she's a great prop at a wonderful price. She's large enough to be intimidating, yet small enough to tuck safely into a corner for storage. She'll be a great trick-or-treater greeter! The recording is loud and clear, You'll definitely get your money's worth – and scares – with Peek a Book Penny.
