My boyfriend and I went and purchased this color and rock 'n' roll red. I didn't use the ultra violet but it gave his hair dark subtle highlights since his is almost black.. but nothing dramatic, so to see the purple you would have to have lighter hair. I used the rock 'n' roll red and I have very light almost platinum hair and from the first time I used it, it never turned my hair red, but rather a hot pink. Which only faded to lighter and lighter pink as the days went on. So, if you're a guy and your not interested in having pink hair I would suggest that if you have light hair you don't use the rock 'n' roll red color of manic panic because my boyfriend was totally glad I tested it on me and he didn't turn out with a hot pink head. I have included a pic of the rock n roll red in my hair so you can see.

Manic Panic is the one and ONLY hair dye I'll use and I've been a dyehard for going on 11 years!
What I love most about MP is the quality. You can tell that Tish & Snooky made their dye with lots of love! I've never had a bad turn out and the colors are ALWAYS vibrant. (and for those who don't get a good turn out, you possibly need to have your hair lightened a bit more and I highly recommend the MP flash lighting kit!)
A tip for all you MP first timers is to wash your hair with cold water which prevents the color from bleeding to other colors and also prevents fading. Also, I use just a tiny bit of shampoo but lots of conditioner :)
My favorite colors are Electric Banana, (you can mix it with Atomic turquoise to create an amazing bright green, also add it to other colors for fun results!)Plum passion, After Midnight Blue (fades to a gorgeous blue!), hot hot pink (looks FAB next to Electric Lava and Plum passion).. alright who am I trying to kid, I LOVE ALL THE COLORS!

I love this color :]
But if you have dark colored hair, you'll probably need the bleach.
Other than that I use this all the time.
