During initial warm up, allow 3 to 4 hours for your Lava Lite to heat up completely. 
While lamp is heating up, lava may shoot to the top of the globe in jagged formations. This is normal. 
Sometimes the heat coil floats to the top of the globe. If so, just let the lamp run a few hours until the coil drops back into place. If it doesn’t, gently twirl the globe until the coil drops. 
Optima lava flow is achieved after 5 or 6 uses. 
The color of the lava will lighten during the first 7 to 8 uses. This is normal. e.g. The purple colored lava will almost black when first used, but will eventually lighten to its naturally brilliant color. 
Never operate the lamp for more than 10 hours at a time. 
Keep away from all extreme hot and cold surfaces, as well as heating and cooling devices. 
Keep out of direct sunlight. 
Do not move or shake lamp while it is warm. This causes the lamp to become cloudy which is usually a permanent malfunction. 
Do not add fluids or solids to the lamp. 
Do not loosen or remove cap on globe. 

Q. Why is my globe cloudy?
A. The only reason the globe will cloud up is if the lamp has been shaken, moved, dropped, or caught in an earthquake while the lava was warm. This is no fault of the manufacturer and is usually a permanent malfunction. After a Lava Lite has been dropped of shaken, you may be able to save it if you immediately turn it off and do not use or touch it for 72 hours.
Q. Why does my lava stay as a glob in the bottom of the globe?
A. The base may not be getting hot, check the bulb. Or the base may be too hot. Don’t run lamp longer than 10 hours. Or the lava may be sitting on top of the coil instead of covering the coil. This may be defective and need to be replaced. Call customer service for further instructions: 773-237-5700
Q. Why does my lava break up into lots of little balls?
A. Each Lava Lite has its own personality and these formations are a normal occurrence. And/or this may be a symptom of the lamp overheating because it has been running for too long. Shut the lamp off until the lava is fully cooled, then you may restart the lamp.
Q. Why are there speckles of light on my globe?
A. Each globe is made of glass and is likely to have manufacturer marks and bubbles. This is normal.
Q. Why did the liquid color fade in my lamp?
A. The only reason the color will drastically fade is when the lamp is placed in direct sunlight. This is no fault of the manufacturer and is a permanent condition.
